The Cosby Show's Geoffrey Owens offered job by Tyler Perry after he's shamed for working in grocery

Tyler Perry has offered a job to Geoffrey Owens after The Cosby Show star was shamed for working in a grocery store.

Geoffrey, who payed Elvin in the sitcom that starred Bill Cosby as the patriarch of the Huxtable family, was recently spotted by a fan working at American grocery store Trader Joe's.

After the picture wound up going viral, director Tyler said he'd be happy to hire the actor for his prime time drama, The Haves and The Have Nots.

"#GeoffreyOwens I’m about to start shootings OWN’s number one drama next week!" He tweeted on Tuesday.

"Come join us!!! I have so much respect for people who hustle between gigs. The measure of a true artist."

While he's yet to respond directly to Tyler Perry, Geoffrey appeared on Good Morning America earlier in the day where he said he wouldn't feel "comfortable" accepting handouts.

“I wouldn’t feel comfortable getting acting jobs from this event,” he said. “I wouldn’t mind getting auditions. I don’t mind if people call me to try out for things, due to what’s happened … I want to get a job because I’m the right person.”

He also added to CNN: "I feel like I have to earn a job in this industry. Even with all this notoriety right now, I think I'd actually feel a little uncomfortable if someone said because of what's happening to you in the media right now, we are going to give you a job."

However, he added: "If because of this I get more auditions, I get a chance to get in the room and compete with my peers for jobs, that I wouldn't mind at all."

He also told CNN that he recently quit his job at Trader Joe's in the wake of the media storm surrounding the picture.

"I worked at Trader Joe's until a couple of weeks ago for 15 months. As soon as I heard this story was in the works, I resigned because I didn't feel that for my peace of mind and my dignity that I was going to be able to function there in a positive way, spiritually and emotionally ... '[Trader Joe's] said instead of leaving, why not just call it a temporary leave of absence. I can go back whenever I want."

Geoffrey starred on the NBC sitcom between 1985 and 1992.

The 57-year-old, from Brooklyn, New York, went on to appear in TV shows like Law & Order, That's So Raven, Medium and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, as well as many others.

According to IMDB, he appeared in an episode of TV show Elementary earlier this year and has two projects currently in post-production.

In a short film named Fizzle, he's credited as 'Man Who Sneezes', and in movie Impossible Monsters, which tells the story of an ambitious professor who becomes caught up in the murder of a participant in his sleep study, he plays a character named Jacobs.
